Back to Basics.

Finally.

Good city government is not complicated. You listen to the people you serve, spend their tax dollars wisely, and never forget why you ran in the first place. Here is where I stand on the issues that matter most to District 1 and to Irvine.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Irvine is facing a projected deficit that could reach nearly $50 million by the end of the decade. Too many decisions at City Hall have relied on one-time patches and deferred costs rather than structural solutions.

That has to stop.

As a former Finance Commission Chairman who currently serves on the Finance Commission, I understand exactly how these numbers work and what it will take to get Irvine back on solid financial footing. Fiscal discipline is not optional. It is the foundation that everything else depends on.

I will NOT support any new taxes on Irvine residents. The answer to a budget deficit is smarter spending, not more money taken from the families who already pay for this city.

“Irvine is one of the most well-run cities in America. But a nearly $50 million projected deficit does not fix itself, and the current path is not sustainable. I will bring the same discipline to City Hall that I have applied throughout my career in business and public service.”

TRANSPARENCY

Good government does not happen behind closed doors. Irvine residents deserve to know exactly how their tax dollars are being spent, who is making decisions that affect their neighborhoods, and why. Right now, too much happens without adequate public visibility or accountability.

As a city council member I will push for clear, accessible reporting on city finances, honest communication about budget challenges, and a council culture that treats residents as partners rather than an afterthought. Transparency is not a nice to have. It is a requirement of public trust.

“You cannot hold your government accountable if you cannot see what it is doing. I will always tell residents the truth about where Irvine stands, even when the news is difficult.”

TRAFFIC RELIEF

Traffic across District 1 has gotten worse every year, and residents know it. Our neighborhood streets and major corridors are increasingly congested, especially during school hours. This is not a new problem. It is a neglected one.

I will push for real solutions, not studies, not promises. That means coordinating infrastructure improvements with the actual growth patterns of our district and holding the city accountable for delivering results.

“Sitting in traffic every morning is not an Irvine value. We can do better, and we will.”

PUBLIC SAFETY

Safe neighborhoods are the foundation of everything we love about Irvine. I am proud to have the endorsement of Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes, and I will be a consistent champion for the men and women who keep our community safe.

That means protecting funding for public safety, supporting our first responders, and ensuring that Irvine remains one of the safest cities in America. Public safety is not a partisan issue. It is a basic responsibility of local government.

“Every family in District 1 deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, on their trails, and in their schools. I will never treat public safety as a line item to be cut.”

FIRE MITIGATION

Our hillside communities and open spaces face real and growing fire risk every dry season. Proactive fire mitigation is not optional in a community like ours. It is a matter of safety and responsibility.

I will push for a serious approach to fire prevention that includes brush management, defensible space programs, and coordination with county and state fire agencies. Waiting for a crisis to act is not a plan.

“The question is not whether we can afford to invest in fire mitigation. The question is whether we can afford not to.”

OPEN SPACES AND TRAILS

The open spaces and trails of District 1 are part of what makes Irvine one of the most livable cities in America. They are community assets that belong to all of us, and they deserve to be protected, maintained, and expanded thoughtfully.

I will be a strong advocate for preserving our open spaces and ensuring that our trail system remains safe, accessible, and well-maintained for families, runners, cyclists, and everyone who calls this community home.

“Our trails and open spaces are not amenities. They are part of the character of this community. I will fight to keep them that way.”

AFFORDABILITY

Irvine is becoming less affordable for the families who live and work here. A growing city budget deficit, rising city fees, and the cost of poor fiscal decisions all flow downhill to residents. Getting back to basics on spending is not just good governance. It is how we keep Irvine accessible for the next generation of families.

I will look for every opportunity to reduce the burden on residents and ensure that city government is working for the people who pay for it, not the other way around.

“Irvine should be a city where hardworking families can afford to stay. That does not happen by accident. It takes leadership that understands the connection between fiscal discipline and the cost of living.”

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Irvine’s schools are among the best in the nation, and the city council has a real role to play in keeping them that way. While curriculum and instruction belong to IUSD and TUSD, the city directly controls the infrastructure and environment that surrounds our schools every day.

That means safe traffic flow and crossing guard coverage around school zones, well-maintained parks and open spaces that students and families rely on, and joint use agreements that maximize shared resources between the city and our school districts. It also means ensuring our libraries serve as strong community anchors for students and lifelong learners across District 1.

“Great schools need great cities around them. I will make sure City Hall is a reliable partner for IUSD, TUSD, and every family in District 1.”

Together we can finally bring commonsense leadership back to Irvine.
